Our wave monitoring mast prototype has been successfully deployed at Spearhead Lake, which is within the Neilson Spearhead Center. It is currently collecting real-time data on water height, air temperature/humidity, and wind speed/direction. We are currently working on a webpage that would update daily to depict this data. Stay tuned!

One of our goals is to help establish a citizen-science based program that deploys a network of affordable wave monitoring masts. We have partnered with the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society (MHAS), an environmental conservation organization that focuses on ecological research and outreach, to deploy a wind wave monitoring prototype that costs less than $1,000. The prototype will be deployed this spring at Spearhead Lake, which is within the Neilson Spearhead Center, a 466-acre preserve southwest of Bemidji, Minnesota that is owned and operated by MHAS. It is our hope that this prototype is successful, and we can get more wave monitoring masts deployed by citizens scientists in the near future.
Check back for more details as we develop this program. ______________________________________________________________________

Depending on the success of our crowdfunding campaign, we are scoping out a program that would establish a network of affordable wave monitoring masts that can be deployed throughout the state. The data masts will be design by UMN but fabricated, deployed and monitoring by an established citizen science network. Data from these sites will be aggregated into a common database of boat generated waves and wind driven wave from across the state.
