MINIMUM TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR ADMISSIONS AND MATRICULATION (PDF below)
The Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, and the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, Master of Dental Therapy Dual Degree are professional degrees unique in that the graduate is prepared, and upon licensure, to practice all disciplines related to dental hygiene, or dental hygiene and dental therapy. This requires that the student in the curriculum acquire didactic knowledge as a well as psychomotor skills and attitudes essential to the profession and agreed upon by the faculty as requisite for the practice of general dentistry. The candidate requires both cognitive and technical skills in order to negotiate this curriculum. In the process, a matriculated candidate is required to direct or perform treatment on the patients of the School and its affiliates. The School has the responsibility of insuring the safety of the patients. This includes the rendering of treatment in a safe manner and within a specified amount of time. To that end, the student must be able to meet the School of Dentistry Minimum Technical Standards for Admissions and Matriculation with or without reasonable accommodations.
Your physical exam needs to be completed by an physician or physician's assistant(who is not related to you) within a year of your matriculation (August 2024 or later) - PDF below. Please be sure that all boxes are checked, or that necessary accommodations have been detailed for all five sections of the form. Complete and submit the technical standards form no later than by Friday, July 11, 2025 to dhapply@umn.edu for BSDH students, and dhdt@umn.edu for BSDH/MDT students.
