May 1, 2026 – We welcome Genevieve to our lab as a Heisig summer fellow! Genevieve will join our group to work on cage design and synthesis with Brett. We're so glad to have you as part of our team!
April 27, 2026 – Lauren and Eryck's new paper, "Copper Ligation and Nuclearity Dictate the Solution Dynamics and Hydrogen Evolution Activity of Discrete Mo-Cu Sulfide Clusters," is published online in Inorganic Chemistry! Check it out here!
April 26, 2026 – Congratulations to Manu, who was awarded a Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship from UMN for his work on copper-sulfide clusters! The grant provides a $25,000 stipend, academic year tuition, subsidized health insurance, and a $1,000 conference grant (read more about it here). Way to go, Manu!!
April 13, 2026 – Congratulations to Ethan, who won the ACS Hach Landgrant Undergraduate Scholarship and Heisig summer research fellowship! Way to go, Ethan!!
April 12, 2026 – Congratulations to Rupal and Manu, who respectively won the LayChoo Tan International Student Fellowship and the Stanley Shi-Tung King international student fellowships! These fellowships recognize outstanding international graduate students with candidacy for the Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Physics. Only 2 Laychoo Tan awards and 1 Stanley Shih-Tung King award are awarded each year. What a huge accomplishment!!
March 27, 2026 - Congratulations to our group alumna, Lauren, for winning the ACS DIC Young Investigator Award! There are fewer than 10 such awards given across the U.S. each year to honor talented young inorganic chemists. Lauren will present her work at the ACS DIC Young Investigator symposium in Chicago this August. So well-deserved, Lauren!!
March 25, 2026 - Congratulations to Brett for passing his OPE and becoming a PhD candidate! We're so glad to have you as a continuing member of our team, Brett!!
March 17, 2026 - We are pleased to announce that our lab was awarded a grant from the Minnesota Corn Growers Association to develop catalysts to convert distiller's corn oil to sustainable aviation fuel!
March 6, 2026 - Rupal and Brett's new paper, "Deconvoluting electrostatic, noncovalent, and magnetic effects of iron-sulfur cofactors inside synthetic cage frameworks," is published online in the Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry! This contribution was invited as part of a special issue honoring Chris Orvig's career. Check it out here!
March 5, 2026 - Our recently published paper, "Sterically directed, site-preferential selenization of discrete copper sulfide nanoclusters," has been featured in a themed collection: Celebrating International Women's Day 2026: Women in Journal of Materials Chemistry A! Check it out here!

December 9, 2025 - Congrats to Lauren on successfully defending her thesis and becoming the first Ph.D. student graduate from our group! Her leadership, perseverance, and scientific contributions helped establish the foundation of our research program, and her impact will continue to shape future projects and trainees. We will miss you!!
