Mike Trenerry was born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota. He attended Carleton College, where he performed research on the mechanisms of small molecule activation promoted by rhodium silyl pincer complexes under the supervision of Professors Matt Whited and Buck Taylor. After graduating from Carleton with degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics, Mike left Minnesota to pursue graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the lab of Professor John Berry. There, he studied metal-metal bonded diruthenium complexes for the electrocatalytic oxidation of ammonia and graduated with a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry in 2022. Mike has now returned to Minnesota for a Postdoctoral appointment in the Bailey lab, where his research focuses on the synthesis and electrochemical properties of multimetallic copper chalcogenide clusters. Outside of the lab, Mike enjoys reading, bouldering, and playing piano.
