Marlan was born and raised in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. There he developed a passion for chemistry during his time at Champlin Park High School under the teachings of Beth Bethke. After starting at University of Minnesota in 2020, he joined the Bailey group in early 2022 and was awarded the summer research fellowship in 2022 and 2023. Currently, Marlan is working on the small molecule reduction with multimetallic systems project in the Bailey lab. Outside of research and classes, Marlan spends his time running, weightlifting, bouldering, bowling, hanging out at the Minnesota International Student Association (MISA), and playing video games with friends.
