Transportation at the U:
The University of Minnesota offers free on-campus and inter-campus transportation for students with its campus buses.
These buses run on a schedule between different locations on the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses as well as between the two.
To learn more about the buses and their routes you can visit the websites for the campus circulator buses and for the campus connector buses.
You can also download the GopherTrip app on your phone to view routes and track campus buses.
With sidewalks on every street and an indoor tunnel/skyway system, walking is an easy way to get around campus. Walking from one side of campus to another can take a while though, so it is important to plan ahead.
The Gopher Way tunnel and skyway system is open on weekdays from 8 to 4:30 and is a great option for getting around during the frigid Minnesota winters.
Biking/rollerblading/longboarding/etc. are some other good ways to get around campus. The U has many biking resources including bike lanes and racks all around campus as well as a campus bike center.
Check out this map of bike lanes and Gopher Way tunnels to plan your routes!
The MetroTransit system is a good option for students traveling between campuses and on and off campus. There are several bus routes that go through UMN as well as the light rail green line. (You can also put your bike on the front of Metro buses for more efficient transportation!)
MetroTransit offers free transportation between East Bank and West Bank with a Campus Zone Pass which you can request through a google form.
They also offer a U-Pass for UMN students for $114 per semester which gives you unlimited access to MetroTransit buses and light rail lines
