The purpose of this course is as follows:
i. to increase participants' awareness of disaster response.
ii. to expose the most recent discoveries, skills, and knowledge in in the field of disaster management
iii. to provide training to participants from various backgrounds in coordinating disaster management in the presence of multiple agencies
iv. to test existing SOPs, communication flows, and disaster action plans at the agency level in the event of a disaster
v. to enhance the preparedness of medical personnel, NGOs, and disaster management agencies in the face of disasters in terms of medical assistance, emergency assistance, and communication
vi. to provide participants with the necessary skills to design and execute disaster preparedness exercises in a variety of formats
TOPCOM was established in 2013 as an initiative by the Emergency and Trauma Department of Hospital Selayang, in collaboration with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society. It is fully supported by all first responder agencies in Malaysia.
