What is an official final transcript?
Once you are officially admitted to the School of Information (UMSI), you have until the end of your first semester to submit an official final transcript from the institution where you received your bachelor’s degree. Only one official final transcript with a degree is required. You do not need to submit all degree transcripts. Please keep in mind that we must receive these documents by the end of your first semester at the University of Michigan or your ability to register for the next term will be impacted.
Your official final transcript receipt will be noted on your unofficial transcript. You should see the school name and degree name (B.A., B.S., etc). If you do not see the school and degree name, please contact umsi.transcripts@umich.edu.
U-M Ann Arbor Applicants (Current or Previous Students): Do not submit your U-M Ann Arbor transcript. UMSI will obtain your U-M Ann Arbor transcript internally. However, please submit all your degree transcripts from other institutions you attended, including U-M Dearborn or U-M Flint.
What is NOT an official transcript?
Documents (paper or electronic) sent to our office by anyone that is not a Registrar (or Controller of Examinations) or equivalent. If your school does not have a registrar or a similar department, please contact us at umsi.transcripts@umich.edu.
Documents (paper or electronic) that have been opened prior to submitting them to our office.
A “true” copy prepared and signed by faculty, city or government official, or notary public is not considered official.
Rejected Transcripts
The following scenarios can cause transcripts to be rejected and should be avoided if possible:
A transcript is unofficial, marked as student-issued, or is addressed to someone other than the University of Michigan School of Information.
A transcript is missing pages or was severely damaged in the mail.
An incorrect transcript was received; this can occur when another student at your school has the same or similar name and you did not provide enough information when you requested your transcript. Be sure to provide your schools with as much information as possible so they can properly identify your records.
Closed Undergraduate Institutions
If your school is permanently closed, you must confirm that your academic records can still be obtained. Review your school's website to learn if another school holds their academic records or contact the state licensing agency where your school was located to learn whether the state made arrangements to store the school's academic records. If your transcript is available, you must have it sent to UMSI. If your transcript is no longer available, contact umsi.transcripts@umich.edu.
