Funding for Students and Organizations
Funding for Students and Organizations
The Student Government shall provide student funding opportunities, so long as it is within budget, in the form of appropriations, emergency student funding, co-sponsorships, and charitable contributions, as outlined in our constitution. Please review the criteria to be considered for funding opportunities in our constitution. All student and organization funding policy is outlined in Bylaw 5 (Funding for Students and Organizations) of the SSWSG Constitution.
Please click on the appropriate Google form or link below and follow the directions on the form to submit a request for funding.
Please note:
“Appropriation” refers to a request for funding from Social Work students for the purpose of educational enrichment, capped at $75 per student, per Academic Calendar Year. Appropriations are only provided in the form of reimbursement and requires proof of purchase before reimbursement can be provided if approved. Educational enrichment costs covered by appropriations may include student NASW membership fees, school supplies, software for classwork, attending conferences (NASW Conference is covered by OSS), exam fees, certificate program costs, and more. Appropriations are limited to funds available in the SG budget.
“Co-sponsorship” refers to a request for funding from a student organization for the purpose of hosting an event. Should a co-sponsorship be approved, the SG would be considered an event co-sponsor. Once an event budget has been provided by an organization, the SG will vote to either reimburse or direct purchase the items listed, if approved by vote. Co-sponsorships can be provided in the form of reimbursement or direct purchase. If approved, this means that an organization, or organization leader, must pay for the event costs approved by SG, then the finances will be reimbursed to the individual or organization once proof of purchase has been provided. Any direct purchases from SG for an organization will be made by an authorized signer of the SG, if approved. Co-sponsorship funds are limited to funds available in the SG budget.
“Charitable contribution” refers to a request for funds from the SG for the purpose of funding a charitable fundraising event, organization, or effort. Any person or organization may request a charitable contribution. Charitable contributions requested for political purposes such as campaigns will be denied instantly. Charitable contributions may be provided via direct payment or reimbursement, both of which require receipt confirmation. Charitable contributions are limited to funds available in the SG budget.
Students enrolled in U-M’s School of Social Work may be eligible for emergency funding. Requests can be submitted through the Assistant Dean of Student Services.
