In this ongoing project, I examine the language practices of Cabo Verdeans in New England, focusing on the bilingual code often called “Creole-English” or “Kringlish.” Speakers blend Kriolu and English to form innovative words and phrases such as good loka ‘good luck,’ gabedja ‘garbage,’ and fandatu ‘find out.’ The project documents and celebrates these linguistic innovations within the Cabo Verdean American community.
