I am currently working on a project investigating the language practices of the Cabo Verdean diaspora in New England. The New England diaspora is the largest and one of the oldest Cabo Verdean immigrant communities in the world. Cabo Verdeans have been immigrating to the U.S. in a continuous fashion since they first arrived in coastal port cities in the mid-1800s. Today there is an estimated 500,000 Cabo Verdeans living in predominantly Massachusetts and Rhode Island cities.Â
