The Michigan Engineering Welcome Session program was designed to help regular (non-temporary) faculty and staff acclimate to the College of Engineering. This initiative invites all tenured and tenure-track faculty, lecturers, research faculty, research fellows (postdoctoral scholars) and non-academic staff hires to participate. The program is held bi-monthly in a hybrid format, accommodating both onsite and remote attendees. Registration invitations are sent via email directly to new hires by RPM HR.
The primary goal of this program is to familiarize new employees with the College’s structure and to aid new hires in navigating their career at Michigan Engineering. Eligible participants include those who have recently joined the University of Michigan, transferred to Michigan Engineering from another school or college within the University, or have transitioned into a new job title at Michigan Engineering from a previously ineligible position. Participants have the opportunity to meet leaders from various administrative departments, who provide overviews of their roles and responsibilities, as well as the services and expertise offered to the engineering community.
The Office of Culture, Community and Equity provides details on the College’s dedication to fostering a welcoming, inclusive and equitable environment. Additionally, important training opportunities are discussed, as well as various ways that community members can participate in our ongoing efforts.
**Please note that the Welcome Session is not meant to replace specific group or department/unit onboarding processes, which are crucial for targeted groups.**
Networking Opportunities: Connect with team members from different departments.
Insightful Presentations: Leadership discussions about our structure and culture, various services that are provided by our administrative departments, as well as helpful resources that are available.
Delicious Refreshments: New hires that register for the onsite session can enjoy a continental breakfast that includes pastries, coffee, orange juice, and water.
Exciting Gifts: Swag is provided to those attending the session in-person. Virtual attendees are given the opportunity to pick-up their swag at Lurie Engineering Center at their convenience. Additionally, two raffles are held with one winner drawn from each, for a Starbucks gift card.
