Refrigerants
Refrigerants used in residential cooling applications can have thousands of times the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of CO2. We aim to identify environmentally sustainable refrigerants and analyze the potential benefits of their widespread adoption.
Below is a summary of known refrigerants and their environmental impacts. It includes EPA-approved residential cooling refrigerants on Tab 1, most commonly used residential cooling refrigerants on Tab 2, and other available refrigerants on Tab 3.
