Rebecca Lentz - remlentz @ umich.edu

Rebecca is 4th year PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Before attending the University of Michigan, she received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. Her research focuses in infrared detectors for environment sensing, advised by Dr. Jamie Phillips. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, painting, cooking, and hanging out with friends.

Vice President

Lauren Cooper - lacoop @ umich.edu

Lauren is a fourth year PhD student in Dr. Almantas Galvanauskas’s group. Her research focuses on (no pun intended!) few-cycle ultrafast fiber laser systems, with applications to high harmonic experimentation and other exciting new research frontiers. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western Kentucky University, and is originally from Louisville, KY. In her free time, she enjoys painting, running, reading, and building high-power rockets.

Secretary

Greg Smail - smail @ umich.edu

Greg Smail is a third year PhD student in Applied Physics. He received his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Greg works with Prof. Stephen Rand studying nonlinear magneto-electric interactions between light and matter. In his spare time, Greg enjoys baking and gardening

Treasurer

Yifan Shen - yifshen @ umich.edu

Yifan is a second-year PhD candidate in the Department of  Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). Advised by Dr. Theodore Norris, his research interest focus on the Far-infrared spectroscopy of both organic and solid-state material. He received his B.S in Physics from Nanjing University and  M.S in Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Industry Chair

Grace Kerber - gkerber @ umich.edu

Grace is a fourth-year physics PhD Student working in the group of Dr. Steven Cundiff. Originally from Boulder, Colorado, she studied Physics and Music at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.  In her spare time, Grace likes to go camping/hiking, playing music, and hanging out with her guinea pigs.

Academic Chair

Ishtiaque Ahmed Navid- inavid@umich.edu

Ishtiaque is a fourth year Ph.D. student in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. His research focus is on the intersection of the epitaxy and functionalization of III-Nitride based nanomaterials for artificial photosynthesis and optoelectronics applications, advised by Professor Zetian Mi. He is originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh and he received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. In his free time, he enjoys playing table tennis and going on long drives.
