Laura Andre - lbandre @ umich.edu
Laura Andre is a PhD candidate and Rackham Merit Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). She received her undergraduate degree in Physics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and was born and raised in Washington, DC. Under the direction of Dr. Stephen Rand, her current research is focused on laser cooling of solids. At U-of-M, she is also involved in graduate student recruiting and is a member of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee as well as the ECE Graduate Student Council. Outside of academics, Laura enjoys backpacking, sailing, paddle boarding, rock climbing, and photography.
Hannah Kim - hanmkim @ umich.edu
Hannah Kim is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering advised by Dr. Andrej Lenert. Her research aims to develop selectively transparent thermally resistive materials for application in passive radiative cooling. She received her B.S. in chemical engineering from Columbia University as well as a B.A. in chemistry from Colorado College. In her free time, Hannah enjoys trying new cuisines and being outside.
Jesus Hinojosa - jesushi @ umich.edu
Jesus received a B.S. in Physics from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2014, and a Post-Baccalaureate in Astrophysical Sciences from Princeton University in 2016, before joining the Applied Physics department at the University of Michigan. His research interests include high intensity laser plasma interactions, laser wakefield acceleration, Quantum Electrodynamic effects and directed energy acceleration.
Dehui Zhang - dehui @ umich.edu
Dehui is a fourth year PhD in ECE, Umich. Currently he is exploring the many different ways light kicks electrons in two dimensional materials. It is a very important topic since it is...fun!
Kaiwen Guo - kaiwguo @ umich.edu
Kaiwen is a fourth year PhD student in ECE and is a member of Prof. Mohammed Islam's research group.
Ady (Aaditya) Hambarday - hambarde @ umich.edu
Ady is a Ph.D. precandidate in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). He was born and raised in India. He received his B.S. degree from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology at Nagpur in India and his M.S. degree from University of Michigan. He is advised by Prof. Mack Kira. He is primarily interested in the development of first-principles techniques to elucidate many-body quantum interactions in material systems. He intends to apply these techniques to diverse areas such as semiconductor quantum optics, strong light-matter interaction, quantum spectroscopy, strongly interacting Bose-Einstein condensates, and THz spectroscopy.
Besides this, Ady is active in outreach activities in University of Michigan. He regularly volunteers for the 'Lunch & Lab Program' of College of Engineering (CoE), aimed at inspiring freshmen and juniors in CoE to pursue graduate studies. He also volunteers for the Common Reading Experience Program (CRE), also of College of Engineering, aimed at fostering a sense of community among engineering freshmen.
Grace Kerber - gkerber @ umich.edu
Grace is a second-year physics PhD Student working in the group of Dr. Steven Cundiff. Originally from Boulder, Colorado, she studied Physics and Music at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. In her spare time, Grace likes to go camping/hiking, playing music, and hanging out with her guinea pigs.
Alex Sarracino - alexsar @ umich.edu
Alex is a third year Applied Physics PhD student. He works in Dr. Steve Yalisove's group studying the effect of low energy, high intensity laser irradiation of semi-conductors. Received his bachelor degree in Physics from Florida International University in Miami. Originally from Havana, Cuba. Outside of research Alex likes to spend countless hours on the internet, read, play board games, make and listen to music, eat.
