Course Description
The purpose of this course is to equip the student with the ability and the tools necessary to recognize, analyze, and resolve significant problems in the operation of a supply chain system through the application of quantitative techniques. This course focuses on the strategic role of the supply chain, key strategic drivers of supply chain performance, and the tools and techniques for supply chain analysis.
Purpose of this site
To support the above purpose of this course, students select a retailing context of their interest, collect data, analyze data by applying tools covered in the course materials, and propose solutions. Through this exercise, students demonstrate their ability to apply tools in recognizing, analyzing and solving significant problems faced in the retailing supply chain operations. We choose retailing as the context partly because the Covid Pandemic posts various challenges and open up opportunities for the retailing business. We hope the solutions presented here offer business owners ideas to reevaluate and improve their retailing operations.
About us
We are a group of students who enrolled in OM470 in the Winter 2023 semester at College of Business, University of Michigan-Dearborn. Retailing contexts we study include (chained) food and beverage service; car dealership; clothing, apparel store, furniture outlet; general, department-store like retailer; and healthcare clinic. In each of the two phases, we apply a different tool to perform analysis and provide solutions for business owners to improve their retailing operations.
