Are a DO, CNM, MD, NP, or PA
Provide contraceptive counseling and care*
Already completed intern year of residency (PGY-2 and up)
*You do not have to insert/remove IUDs and implants or perform tubal surgeries, but you must be someone who refers for these services to other colleagues or clinics
You clinic will be randomly assigned to a group: usual care or the intervention group.
You will complete a baseline and exit survey (10 minutes each).
If your clinic is assigned to the intervention group, you will be sent a link to the My Health My Choice tool and a 3-minute video with instructions.
You should proceed with the scheduled visit with a study patient.
You will fill out a 3 minute survey after each visit with a study patient.
You might be asked to do an optional 1-hour exit interview by phone or virtual video.
You will receive up to $20 to complete a baseline and exit survey ($10 per survey) and you will receive an additional $5 per post-visit survey completed. If selected for a qualitative interview, you will receive $50 upon its completion. Cash remuneration is dependent upon which arm of the study your patients are enrolled in.
Regardless of which group your clinic is assigned, you should proceed as you normally would for the visit based upon your clinical judgment. If your clinic is in the Intervention Arm, you will receive instructions for how to use the My Health My Choice tool and how it may support a contraceptive discussion with your patient.
It can be disappointing for you and your patients not to be in the Intervention group. We thank you for being in the Usual Care group as it is critical to have a control arm for a robust RCT. The good news is that once you exit out of the study, we can send you a link to the My Health My Choice tool to use. Your patients who participate in the study will be offered the same opportunity. Thank you for your patience with the scientific process. :)
We will use REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture), which securely collects and stores data from all participants, including patients and providers. If you do an optional exit interview, the interview transcript will not have any words, names, or details that can be linked to you. Access to your data is restricted to study team members. All study findings will be reported or published as group data, not individual data.
Your clinic has a designated clinic site liaison. If you are unsure who that is, please email us at FAMMED-BirthControlStudy@med.umich.edu or call us at (734) 802-2403.
