The Role of Teachers
The role of a teacher is to create a welcoming class environment that encourages development, learning, and success amongst all students. The classroom must be inclusive. It is essential that teachers model fairness, empathy, and respect each and every day. Student support should always be available and offered thoughtfully. Diversity must be promoted and celebrated; all students should be respected and treated as equals.
Teachers must hold high expectations for all of their students. They should have faith in all of their students’ abilities and promote this confidence in the classroom. All students must be consistently reminded that their teacher holds them in high regard and believes in their success. Individual achievements, progress, and learning should be the center of attention; an effective teacher does not focus solely on student weaknesses. When teachers show they care about their students’ success, positive relationships will be influenced. The relationship between a group of students and their teacher is a crucial component in creating a classroom that supports student learning.
Learning activities must be planned effectively to encourage participation from every student and promote student success. Teachers must consider all of their students’ individual needs. Teachers must encourage all students to take charge of their learning; this can be done by having all students set meaningful goals. Learning must be student-centered and promote student responsibility.
