My name is Jenna Lash and I am a University of Michigan-Dearborn graduate. I majored in Elementary Education with a content specific study in Math. It has been my goal to become a teacher since the sixth grade. Teaching is a career path that I have always been drawn too. My teachers were my biggest role models and I always looked forward to going to school. I hope to create a classroom that is inviting, accepting, and innovating. I want to help children discover a love for learning early on in their educational years, as I did.
Throughout my school years, I found my relationships with teachers to be very important. I appreciated teachers that really got to understand me as a student. Teachers that joked around with students and made class entertaining were always my favorite. Building relationships with teachers was always something that came very naturally to me. I respected teachers greatly and often felt inspired by them. I believe having such positive experiences in education influenced me to consider becoming a teacher.
I started exploring the teaching field when I began volunteering at an elementary school during my sophomore year of high school. This changed my life. It was something I quickly fell in love with doing. Working with children felt natural to me and I discovered a passion for it. I developed relationships with students and occasionally had the opportunity to work with them one-on-one. Volunteering year round allowed me understand the progress that a student can achieve in just a school year. I loved seeing students improve and enhance their knowledge; it was a very fulfilling experience.
