For over a decade, LISWA (formerly Latinx Social Work Coalition) has worked to be a resource and space for Latine/x students at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. As our organization continues to learn, each year we strive to be more inclusive of our Afro-Latine/x, Afro-Indigenous, Indigenous, and other members of the diaspora. Additionally, we recognize the power to be had in working alongside Afro-Indigenous and Indigenous students as we strive for our common goals. Thus, as our name suggests, we are a group of allied students working to improve the experiences of Afro-Latine/x, Afro-Indigenous, Latine/x, and Indigenous students while at the School of Social Work. We hope to make this year a great one!
