HILS is vitally concerned that all doctoral students make good progress through their program of study and research. We will keep track of your progress in the program and provide assistance when needed. In addition, financial support is contingent on satisfactory progress as determined by your advisor, the governing faculty, and the director of the program.
In order to systematically mark progress and discuss future plans, all doctoral students, regardless of their enrollment status, must complete and submit an annual progress report. Each spring, you will receive a request for a report from the HILS program manager. You will meet with your advisor, reviewing the year’s progress toward major milestones and discussing upcoming plans. Your report, as well as one from your advisor, is then reviewed by the director and associate director and afterwards and is followed by a progress meeting with you, your faculty advisor, the director, the associate director and the program manager.
It is a good idea to plan for the review all year long, by keeping your CV current and maintaining a list of your activities, awards, etc. We recommend keeping an ePortfolio, available through Canvas, throughout the year, updated frequently.
