The GSP Blog Team

Meet the 2022-2023 GSP Blog Team

In an attempt to get to know the new blog team, we asked them all the same questions. Here's what they had to say:

Anya

Lacey Kirchen (She/Her)

What is your Major?

Biomolecular Science with a minor in Gender and Health

What is your class standing?

It's complicated. I have enough credits to be a senior, but I am a transfer student, so I'll be around for at least another full academic year.

What is your favorite thing about GSP?

All of the different people we get to know from different backgrounds and engage in thought-provoking discussions that allow us to learn so much from other people's perspectives.

What made you want to return to GSP for a 2nd year?

The friendships I made when I was in my 1st year of GSP made me want to come back. I was in GSP my first year at UMich because I was a transfer student, so all of my best memories at Umich are related to being in GSP.

What made you want to join the Blog Team?

I enjoy writing, so for me, the Blog Team ended up being the perfect placement for me -I'm loving it!

Penguins are by far the coolest animals on the planet.

What is your favorite thing about GSP?

The people I meet! I see GSP as an amazing way to meet new people and make friends. Everyone is so friendly and also open-minded to different ideas and viewpoints, which I like and appreciate!

What made you want to return to GSP for a 2nd year?

I mainly returned because my first GSP year experience was entirely online, so my experience didn't really feel complete. I wanted to know what it was like to be in GSP in person, and on the plus side returning to GSP again was a nice way to meet new people, aka, the first-year GSP scholars!

What made you want to join the Blog Team?

As a film major, I saw the blog team as another digital medium I could use to express my creativity. I also saw joining the blog team as an opportunity to get the GSP name out there online! Through website editing, conducting interviews, and putting out people's stories and creative pieces, I'm sure the GSP blog will gradually become popular!

What is your favorite animal?

Peacocks, specifically albino peacocks! I love flying creatures, and I'm also a sucker for beautiful aesthetics. I aspire to be as fabulous as a peacock, and the albino peacock to me reminds me of an angel, which gives me ethereal fantasy vibes.

What is your favorite mythological creature?

When it comes to mythical creatures, we normally think of animals, like dragons and unicorns, but what about the half-human hybrids? A divine angel with pink wings would have to be my favorite!

Julien Theuerkauf (He/Him)

What is your Major? Movement Science

What is your class standing? Junior

What is your favorite thing about GSP?

I love the integration of so many different cultures into a tight knit community.

What made you want to return to GSP for a 2nd year?

The people and the instructors.

What made you want to join the Blog Team?

I wanted to contribute to the GSP community by creating something that would last and the blog team would give me an opportunity to do just that.

What is your favorite animal?

Cats because they are cute, cuddly, and crazy.

What is your favorite mythological creature?

Giants because they are the most likely to be real.

The interaction I had with people at GSP is meaningful and valuable. There is no doubt that I have made life-time friends at this close-knit GSP community.

After spending my first year at GSP, I want to contribute to GSP and especially help more U of M students know about GSP and take the opportunity to join this community.

What made you want to return to GSP for a 2nd year?

The people. I made so many amazing friends in GSP last year, that I was thrilled to get the opportunity to spend another year working with them, and to get to meet the new cohort of global scholars.

What made you want to join the Blog Team?

I am many other things besides my major—one of those being, that I'm very creative. I often write in my free time, so I figured that the blog team would be a perfect mix of my involvement in GSP, and personal interests.

What is your favorite animal?

The pallas cat

What is your favorite mythological creature?

I'm not sure, as I'm usually a bigger fan of the myths themselves! I've taken Greek and Nordic mythology classes during my time here at Michigan, and thoroughly enjoyed both.
