GGM@Dearborn 2022

In 2022, the GirlsGetMath@Dearborn program ran for 4 days, July 25-28, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm, in the CASL building. The participants came from Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Detroit, Canton,  Northville, Novi and Franklin.

The major themes this year were Matrix Algebra, Image Processing, Graph Theory and Epidemics, and Apportionment. Students used the MATLAB programming language to apply and experiment with the new concepts they learned. We had several college and career oriented sessions: a presentation and discussion about college life led by our wonderful teaching assistants and math majors Emilee Gootee and Amber Cheplick, a presentation from our campus’ College Admissions, and a “Women in Engineering” panel discussion. Our panelists included Cathy Mertz, Hoda Sharifi, Michelle Wu, Lingua Zhang and Suhair Sebal from MathWorks, as well as Catharina Atalaia Santos from TE Connectivity.

This year the program was led by Profs. Aditya Viswanathan and Yulia Hristova, and teaching assistants Emilee Gootee and Amber Cheplick.
