The (formal) Approaches to South Asian Languages conference is the main venue in North America for the presentation and discussion of linguistic research focusing on South Asian languages.

The 13th (f)ASAL will be hosted by the Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan during March 31st, April 1st, and April 2nd, 2023. The special theme is "language contact and multilingualism." 

We encourage submissions from scholars who do high-quality linguistic study of any South Asian language spoken or signed, adopting a wide range of methodological and disciplinary approaches.

Dr. Das is a linguistic anthropologist specializing in language, technology, and inequality in North America, South Asia and the francophone world

University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Bhatt specializes in the sociolinguistics of language contact in South Asian languages (Kashmiri, Hindi, Indian English)
