Welcome to my e-portfolio! Here is where you can access my goals, my previous achievements, and a little bit about me! Thank you for accessing my e-portfolio.
My name is Elaina Hillman and I am currently a student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I am pursuing a degree in education for grades pre-k - 6. I created this portfolio as quick access to my achievements, learning, and goals I have set thus far, as well as for viewers to gain the opportunity to get to know me as a teacher. I will provide examples of work I have done in my time so far at the University of Michigan-Dearborn to exemplify samples of some of my favorite learning tools and skills that I have learned.
I started off as a nursing major at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. I have always loved science. Going through my nursing classes, I was only affirming my love for science as a true passion, and I found myself wanting to share my knowledge and teach others this information as well. I started tutoring in our Academic Success Center, and then someone told me that I should be a teacher. It just clicked for me then, and I realized that my passion wasn't patient care and I was meant to spread knowledge to others.
Upon switching my major, I first chose to pursue secondary education. I was happier in my education field, and I loved learning about the classroom environment, how to help my students thrive, and so many other teaching methodologies. Because my previous university was in Ohio, in order to get the certifications for the grade bands that I wanted to teach I needed to transfer to a school in Michigan, which is how I found myself at UMD. Upon getting out into the field, I learned that I loved working with younger kids. I changed my grade bands at that point in order to reflect the love I have for teaching elementary education.
I want to thank you for finding yourself on my e-portfolio today, and here you'll be able to find my philosophy about teaching, different domains of teaching, and examples of my work during my undergraduate work so far.
