I am a PhD graduand (I successfully defended my dissertation on March 17!) in Linguistics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

In my research, I seek to understand the processes which shape the emergence of cross-linguistic patterns. I'm interested in how biases in language learning and use affect language change in various linguistic ecologies, including those which give rise to pidgins and creoles. My current research uses artificial language learning methodology to explore biases which may shape typological tendencies regarding the expression of negation.
