The University of Michigan Library and Asia Library are pleased to announce the 2017 Workshop on Korean Data Services, held November 15–16. This intensive two-day "boot camp" is designed for North American librarians and researchers navigating the growing complexities of Korean studies and digital scholarship. Led by East Asian specialists and data experts, the workshop addresses challenges such as licensing, language barriers, and data-sharing cultures.
Participants will gain hands-on experience with spatial, numeric, and GIS data from KOSSDA and KOSIS, while exploring reliable resources from international government agencies and commercial vendors. Attendees will leave equipped to identify high-quality data, collaborate effectively with institutional specialists, and provide expert consultation to their patrons.
All participants are cordially invited to attend The 2017 Perspectives on Contemporary Korea Conference, which will be hosted by the Nam Center for Korean Studies immediately following the data workshop, on November 17-18. This year’s conference is entitled “The Future is Now: South Korean Paradigms for Engagement.”
