Welcome to the Community College Summer Institute! We're so glad you are here! This is a week to walk in the footsteps of a UM School of Information student! From connecting with current students, finding your way around campus, and taking classes with cool professors, and tracking points (acorns) to earn prizes (instead of grades). Goal? Exploration and Fun! MUMSI the squirrel says, "Let the Game Begin!"
To prepare for the week ahead, please take a few minutes to read through the Important Information page.
Today is your first day on our beautiful Ann Arbor campus. You can smell the freshly cut grass and see the Bell Tower in the distance.
This week, you are a University of Michigan student!
As you make your way to North Quad, you bump into UMSI’s official mascot, MUMSI the squirrel.
This week, MUMSI the squirrel needs some assistance. The mission, if you choose to accept it, is to gather information. Why? Because information changes everything. And, as we all know, information is stored in acorns! Your participation in CCSI’s online modules can earn acorns that MUMSI can convert into prizes.
Attending sessions throughout the week will earn you acorns. You'll be split into teams and compete for first place. MUMSI even created a leaderboard for our top scorers. The leaders and best will be updated daily, so be sure to keep checking your progress!
Check out the agenda for each day to stay informed about the time and subject of our sessions.
All of our sessions are designed to take place between 9:30 am and 9:00 pm Sunday and 10:00 am and 5:00pm on Monday and Tuesday. The agenda will give you more information about what to expect in the session, as well as what may be needed beforehand.

Once you access the assessment, it will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete it. You will then receive a report of your top 5 Strengths. What is Canvas?
Canvas is a Learning Management System that the University of Michigan uses to conduct coursework. Much like other platforms (Blackboard, D2L, Moodle, and more), Canvas is designed to host online quizzes, lecture modules, and grades.
Why use Canvas?
When participating in CCSI, we want attendees to feel like a University of Michigan students. We believe that potential transfer students should understand the student experience before making their decision. Using Canvas is the first step in immersing yourself in the University of Michigan experience!
How do I navigate Canvas?
Here is a link to our Canvas Student Guide for more information. Your login will be your uniqname, which will be provided after the participation survey is completed.
MUMSI has created a set of rules to make things more interesting. Who doesn't love winning acorns? Even if you're not a squirrel, you'll want to collect acorns to exchange for prizes. But how do you win?
You can collect acorns from required activities such as:
Attending sessions = 20 acorns
Daily Check in = 5 acorns
Daily Survey = 5 acorns
Daily Reflection = 5 acorns
There are also ways to earn extra acorns! These include:
CCSI Mapping Activity = 15 acorns
Other optional bonus assignments = 5 acorns each
Attending social activities = 15 acorns
1:1 meetings with staff = 15 acorns
And more!
Levels:
Level 1: 0-750 points
Level 2: 750-1,500 points
Level 3: 1500+ points
As the week goes on we will be counting how many acorns your team earns. As you move up levels earn more prizes! Check out our leaderboard to keep track of your teams points and to learn more about the prizes.
Connecting with your CCSI Classmates
One of the main goals of CCSI is connection and education. We've split everyone into 4 teams which will be carried into sessions and team-building activities. You can find your team here! We hope that you'll use this opportunity to connect with your CCSI cohort!
We will be updating team point totals daily on our Leaderboard page. You will find out which team you are on during the first day of CCSI.
Only team totals will be shown on the leaderboard. However, feel free to collaborate with your team to compete for first place!
At CCSI we want to support you in your future endeavors, whether that is at UMSI or not. Joining our new Linkedin Group will ensure that you have a place to connect with all past CCSI participants and program assistants.
