Kyra Kralapp (she/her)
Kyla is a senior in Film, Television, and Media with a submajor in Screenwriting and a minor in Creative Writing. She is passionate about her work on campus with the Spectrum Center Student Programming Board, Writers' Room, and the Michigan Daily's arts podcast Arts, Interrupted. After graduation, she plans to pursue screenwriting, with an interest in stories about adolescence, Queerness, and nature.
Harper Johnston (she/her)
Harper Johnston is a second-year student, majoring in English and RC Creative Writing. A life-long reader and empty notebook collector, Harper discovered a passion for poetry after taking her first ever creative writing course at Michigan. Her work is often informed or inspired by her home in Salina, Kansas, girlhood, websites with lists of poetic forms, and a need to express and explore memories. When she doesn’t have a pen in her hand, Harper can be found cooking dinner for her roommate, listening to music, editing for Writer to Writer literary journal, playing Stardew Valley, giving a campus day presentation as an LSA Student Ambassador, or having a private dance party in her room.
Marisa Jordan Galarza (she/her)
Marisa is a junior studying English and Creative Writing. She loves to write short stories and pieces of flash fiction, and hopes to one day compile a collection of her creative works, both literary and visual. Some of Marisa’s favorite activities include watching tv shows, exploring new thrift stores, and enjoying a good meal with friends.
Julian Creutz (he/him)
Julian is a second year majoring in creative writing and literature with a minor in religion. He plans to become a librarian and write as much as humanly possible in his free time. Julian has been writing stories (in one form or another) for as long as he can remember, and he hopes his writing will inspire other marginalized people to share their voice.
Lillian Reed-Nordwall (she/her)
Lily is a junior at U-M. She is double majoring in Film, Television, and Media as well as in RC Creative Writing. She is minoring in Scandinavian Studies which she uses to research for her writing. Lily is most interested in the fantasy and historical fiction genres, both in writing and in reading. She mostly writes books, but has written screenplays as well. She believes stories are important in providing escapism and in broadening people's worldviews.
Macie Hayden (they/them)
Macie Hayden is a junior with a double major in Creative Writing & Literature and Linguistics along with a minor in Community Action & Social Change. They’ve been writing since they could hold a pen and are passionate about words above all else. Their work often connects themes of place, like their home in the Appalachian mountains, with themes of family, the self, and human connection. When not writing, you can find Macie working as a student coordinator at the Spectrum Center, serving as the Editor in Chief of the RC Review, or showing people pictures of their dog, Mariposa.
Lillian Maloney (she/her)
Lillian is a freshman at the University of Michigan majoring in English Language and Literature. She is a lover of visual arts, playing music, going to the movies, and writing creatively, specifically through poetry and prose. She aspires to pursue a graduate education (though her specified path is not yet determined) and aims to continue writing recreationally and professionally. Lillian primarily focuses on mental health and natural imagery within her work.
Madeleine Schouman (she/her)
Madeleine is a sophomore majoring in Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity (EEB) with a minor in creative writing. She recently finished the Great Lakes Writers Corp program and is passionate about the intersection of arts and science. While her preferred genre is creative nonfiction, she enjoys writing poetry and fiction as well. Madeleine's favorite pastimes include bird watching, painting, hiking, and fishing.
Alina Murata (they/she)
Alina is a Creative Writing & Literature and English major from Battle Creek, Michigan. They recently fell in love with creative nonfiction after their first writing course at Michigan, but literary fiction is always a classic in their heart. They are particularly interested in writing about the relationship between humans and nature and the fragility of memory intertwined with journeys through gender, queerness, and racial identity. In her free time, she loves to crochet, play Minecraft, watch devastating movies, and take long, meandering walks. Alina is forever grateful to her family, friends, and mentors for believing in her.
Charlie Shang (they/them)
Hanqi (Charlie) Shang is a second-year student majoring in Cognitive Science and Creative Writing. Much of their poetry centers around the intersections of their different identities. They are a Peer Assistant in the Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts. In addition to writing, they like to spend their time crocheting and wandering the Arb.
Alycia Pietrzak (she/her)
Alycia Pietrzak is a creative writing major and a first-generation transfer student starting her final year at UM. Mainly a writer of science fiction, fantasy, and magic realism, she enjoys embracing life's uncanny and strange aspects. But no matter the genre, Alycia's writing seeks to untangle the thread connecting her characters and the conflicts within them. Beyond writing, she plays her viola in the Campus Philharmonia Orchestra, rewatches her favorite shows, visits her family in Grand Rapids, and works with transfer students in the M-Connect program. Alycia is honored to participate in Café Shapiro again and is eager to see what else her future in writing will bring.
Hannah Cronin (she/her)
Hannah Cronin is a Sophomore at the University of Michigan studying Film, Television, and Media, as well as Spanish. She loves writing anything from screenplays to song lyrics. Reading and writing have been a creative outlet for her since she was young, and she is excited to start sharing her own storytelling with the world.
Reagan Keller (she/her)
Reagan Keller is a writer from White Lake, Michigan. She is a first-year student in the Residential College, hoping to pursue a major in English and minor in Spanish. Reagan dreams of publishing a novel or a collection of poetry in the future. For now, she can't wait to see how her writing evolves!
Ruby Lewis (she/her)
Ruby is a senior from Portland, Oregon pursuing a major in English and a minor in Program in the Environment. She enjoys writing poetry and is working on her honors thesis in creative writing this semester. In her free time, she loves to rock climb, run, and spend time outdoors. She is grateful for the creative writing and poetry classes she has been able to take at the University of Michigan, and she is eager to continue writing after she graduates in May.
Lukas Price (he/him)
Lukas Price is an English major and Spanish minor, who aspires to write and direct movies. Some of his favorite themes to write about are coming of age and the creative process. He likes to work with filmmaking groups on campus, such as M-agination, and has uploaded his own short films to YouTube under the channel Record Overhead Productions. He enjoys listening to movie soundtracks (Hans Zimmer and John Williams were his #1 and #2 artists on Spotify last year) and playing music, in the form of trumpet, drums, or bass guitar. He loves going outside whenever he can, to walk and run through forests and ponds, or to take photos. He hopes to write more about the natural world in the future.
Niyah Reeves (She/Her)
Niyah Reeves is a first-year undergrad from Sterling Heights, Michigan. She is currently pursuing a pre-medical degree in Biochemistry. She hopes to use this degree to go to medical school and then become a forensic pathologist. Niyah has enjoyed writing from a young age, dreaming of sharing her imaginative stories with her friends and family. Throughout middle and high school, she self-published several short stories online and enjoyed the community of self-published online writers. While she didn’t get to write much in high school her passion was reignited in college. She plans to minor in creative writing and hopes to complete a novel before she graduates. Thank you!
Olivia Perrine (she/her)
Olivia is majoring in Art and Design with a focus in Graphic design. She is currently considering a minor in creative writing to expand her skills and passion for writing. She started writing poetry in second grade and has loved it since. Olivia loves reading just as much as writing, and much of her work is inspired by E.E. Cummings, Pattie Smith, and Madeline L'Engle, to name a few. In her spare time,she can be found reading, drawing, writing, listening to music, crocheting, running, spending time with friends, or sleeping.
Phoebe Cavanaugh (she/her)
Phoebe is a junior majoring in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan. She grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, where she found excitement in her English classes and has been writing snippets of fiction ever since. She enjoys a variety of reading genres, particularly fiction and memoir. She strives to put words on the page that speak directly to the audience.
Luke Homans
Luke Homans is a fourth-year student double majoring in English and history. As a member of the Capstone Program in Creative Writing, he is in the process of writing a poetry thesis focused on displaying the lives of fictional characters through portraiture. Aside from writing, Luke enjoys collecting books and CDs, cold weather, and studying geography.
Carolyn Potter (she/her)
Carolyn is a Junior studying Public Policy. From a young age she has loved poetry, particularly spoken word, and writes articles for the U of M chapter of Her Campus Magazine. In her free time Carolyn loves to cook, weight-lift, and spend time giggling.
Camren Thorpe (he/him)
Under Camren Thorpe is an artist. He partakes in creative writing, playwriting, poetry, filmmaking, and music. He loves to blend all mediums into experimental pieces. Camren is a first-year (Undecided) student who is still growing into his artistry. If he isn’t spending his time questioning life, he loves to spend time with loved ones, fall into philosophical rabbit-holes, roam aimlessly in nature, challenge himself physically, read fiction and manga, and play story-mode based video games. Writing is a lifelong journey for him and he plans to become an esteemed novel writer in the future! He is honored for this opportunity to share his work and to witness the work of his talented peers.
Shereen Shahid (she/her)
Shereen Shahid is a senior at the University of Michigan, majoring in Organizational Studies with a minor in Writing. Passionate about storytelling, she is especially drawn to creative and multi-modal forms of writing. In literary spaces, she crafts vivid, imaginative worlds that capture the raw emotions of coming-of-age journeys. In film, she deconstructs cinematic choices and their narrative impact. In professional settings, she analyzes how rhetoric shapes audience perception. She hopes to leverage her writing skills to drive innovation in the automotive and education industries.
Jewell Mason
Jewell Mason is a junior studying History with a minor in Religion. Jewell is from Monroe, Michigan, and is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree with a Major in History and a Minor in Religion. Normally she writes extensive research papers for her major, but has recently taken up writing for pleasure after an enlightening creative writing class last semester. In her free time she enjoys reading, baking, and ice-skating.
