She managed the lab and ran day-to-day experiments and conducted our weekly lab meetings. She will began a Ph.D. program in Biochemistry through the University of Michigan's PIBS program starting in the Fall of 2019.
Josh Brill, B.S.
Joshua Brill received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in the spring of 2015. He concentrated in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience while pursuing research in diabetes. Josh spent two and a half years of his undergraduate career investigating trans-differentiation of acinar tissue to beta cells through transgenic manipulation of the Notch signaling pathway.
Josh was a laboratory manager in the Gregg lab, and upon leaving, began his education at Albany Medical College.
Lab Technicians and Graduate Students:
Stephanie Liu, B.S.Stephanie worked alongside Lindsay on the IMAGE team and was the clinical research coordinator for the project. She recruited mother-baby pairs on labor and delivery at Mott's Children Hospital and Saint Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital. She also performed milk macromolecule analysis in our laboratory and was the caretaker for the fabulous MIRIS machine and the (grumpy) YSI machine. She received her B.S. from Dartmouth College in 2018 and upon leaving our lab went to medical school at Emory College in 2019. Her hobbies include winning board games, spontaneous food runs, and planning events, parties, and vacations. (In regards to her photo: Stephanie is not a model for Starbucks, although Starbucks wishs she were.)
Emma R. Harman, B.S.
Emma worked alongside Lindsay Ellsworth in the IMAGE team and was the clinical research coordinator. She helped by obtaining consent from mother-baby pairs at Mott's Children Hospital and performed wet work at the Gregg Lab by analyzing breast milk samples. She received her B.S. in Biopyschology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (i.e. BCN) from the University of Michigan in 2015. Upon leaving our lab, she began her Masters in Public Health at the University of Michigan.
Allen Zhu, B.S.
Allen graduated from Macalester College in May 2016. He was an intermediate lab technician and was involved in animal husbandry, lab bench work, and data analysis. He split his time between our lab and the Dr. Olson's Lab upstairs, where he assisted in animal husbandry and genotyping mice. He will be attending a Master's program in Bioinformatics in New York in Fall 2019.
Noura El Habbal, B.S.
Noura completed a lab rotation at the Gregg Lab. She helps conduct some of our experiments and does beta cell mass. She wants to become a professor and researcher in the coming years and hopes to be an innovative presence in the field of maternal nutrition and fetal programming. She received her B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon in 2016. She is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan in Nutritional Sciences (Molecular and Biochemical Track) expecting to complete her thesis in 2021.
Nathalie Botezatu, B.S.
Nathalie was a lab technician in our lab. Upon leaving our lab, she began studying at medical school at Wayne State University.
Claudia Cordon, M.S.
Claudia worked in our lab at the beginning of the Gregg lab. She has since moved to Berlin, Germany to work at PRA Health Sciences.
Michelle Smith, M.S.
Michelle was the Gregg lab's very first lab technician. She played the piccolo in the University of Michigan's marching band.
Undergraduates:
Joanna Yeh
Joanna is a senior in the UM School of Nursing. She is a part of the IMAGE team and helps with recruiting mother-baby pairs for the study at Mott's as well as helping out in the Gregg Lab. She hopes to study abroad and become a nurse anesthetist.
Masa Al-Harastani
Masa was a senior in the Honors program at the University of Michigan-Flint while working in our lab. She majored in Human Biology with a concentration in Pre-Physician Assistant and a Minor in Psychology. Masa was completing her off-campus research requirement in our lab in order to write her Honor's thesis on beta-cell mass and the impact of nutrient exposure during lactation on the morphology and function of the pancreas. After graduating, she planned to apply to Physician Assistant programs. She enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with family.
Jennifer Waltz
Jennifer was a senior majoring in Biochemistry while she worked in our lab. She assisted in the IMAGE team study project and helped with wet lab experiments.
