Another exciting event! We partnered with Peace Neighborhood Center (Ann Arbor, Michigan) for their Summer Youth Camp, where we brought neuroscience to life for middle schoolers. During this event, the students rotated through our booths, engaging with different aspects of neuroscience on a smaller scale. One of the booths was Marshmallow Memory Molecules, highlighting the central dogma (DNA -> RNA -> proteins).
As part of the WISE-GISE Summer Camp at the University of Michigan, BrainsRule provided hands-on neuroscience experiences for 15 middle schoolers. Activities such as “Backyard Brains: The Claw” gave students an up-close look at how the brain and nervous system work. Small group sessions allowed for personalized interactions and deeper learning.
We brought neuroscience to life for approximately 500 students at Brick Elementary’s STEM Career Day. Groups of 50–70 students rotated through activities like “Hey Kid, You’re Wired,” where students get to build and act as neurons. Adjustments were made to suit the younger age range, ensuring every student could engage with the material and get excited about neuroscience.
We were excited to partner with Bishop Elementary (Ypsilanti, Michigan) for their Science Night! Over 100 students and their parents were able to explore neuroscience with us through different hands-on booths, including "Train Your Brain." This activity shows students how their brain encodes for different movements by having them throw bean bags with and without vision-altering goggles and tracing a picture while looking at a mirror. This was an exciting shift back to local events post-COVID!
