This map is pinned with the sites that may be associated with some of the artifacts in the exhibition by archaeological excavation, style, technique, or iconography. Click on the icon in the top left corner to reveal the ancient and modern names of these sites. We do not know for certain the actual provenience, or find spot, of the exhibition artifacts other than the female figurine with jar (Harpocrates) and the cooking pot, both of which were scientifically excavated by University of Michigan archaeologists at Karanis, Egypt.
This timeline of the exhibition's ancient artifacts is organized by art historical periods. "BCE" stands for "Before the Common Era" or before the year 1; "CE" stands for "Common Era" which is the chronology in which we all live, i.e. 2019 CE.
