Safety Measures

The security and safety of our K-12 student participants is the first priority during the MLK Program! In order to ensure their safety we implement several measures during the registration and pick-up times in addition to regular precautions during the day's activities. Listed below are these measures and precautions. Please take a few moments to become familiar with them before the day of the event.

  1. Children ages 4 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult (person over the age of 21) for the duration of the program.

  2. Students ages 5 (kindergarten) to 17 may be dropped off at the classroom as long as the responsible parent/guardian completes the registration form with all required information (either online pre-registration or at the walk-in table).

  3. All walk-in registration forms must be signed, in person, by the listed authorized & responsible adult/parent/guardian.

  4. Students left in the care of the MLK Program will not be released without the return of proper paperwork given at the time of drop-off.

  5. In an effort to expedite drop-off and pick-up times we do not require validation of adult picture ID. Instead, we give a form (known as the Fact Sheet) to the parent/guardian at time of drop-off. This form will be verified & initialed as each student is brought to his or her classroom. This same form is to be brought back by the "pick-up adult", and given to MLK program personnel in exchange for retrieving listed child(ren)/student(s). For pre-registered participants, a print out of the ticket or on your phone will suffice.

  6. Parents/guardians sometimes need to have a different adult pick up their child(ren) at the end of the program. As long as the adult picking up the child(ren) has the initialed form, we know they are the authorized adult to which we may release listed child(ren). It is the responsibility of the "drop-off parent/guardian" to ensure that the "pick-up adult" has the necessary form. (We will accept facsimile copies.)

  7. If & when students are not properly retrieved by 3:00pm and MLK personnel cannot get in contact with parent/guardian, then Department of Public Safety will be contacted.

  8. Plastic gloves are used to set up lunch in the classrooms.

  9. A complete First Aid Kit is located at the registration table. Smaller kits, which include gloves, bandaids, and anticeptic are placed in each classroom.

  10. During entertainment performances, in the auditorium, safety monitors are available for emergency needs.

  11. Students are accompanied to the restrooms and back to the classrooms by safety monitors and go in groups (3 or more).

  12. Items of value should be left with the parent/guardian and should not be brought into the program as we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
