The University of Michigan’s Center for Sustainable Systems has developed since 2001 a growing set of factsheets that cover topics including energy, water, food, waste, buildings, materials, and transportation systems. The Water category includes the Factsheets on U.S. Wastewater Treatment and U.S. Water Supply and Distribution.

The University of Michigan (U-M) uses pollution prevention best management practices during  day-to-day activities and construction projects to maintain environmental quality on campus and in the surrounding communities.  Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) provides guidance and oversight for the following environment-related topics: Rules, regulations and data regarding air, soil, and water quality, managing stormwater runoff from construction sites, conservation projects, maintaining wetlands, and best management practices and volunteering opportunities to improve the air, soil, and water in the community

Water is central to Michigan’s identity and economy, but monitoring its continued health and safety is not enough. That’s why the University of Michigan is partnering with communities across the state and beyond to address critical infrastructure issues that affect the health and safety of water resources. U-M researchers, for example, are developing autonomous technologies for aging stormwater systems to reduce the impacts of flooding — potentially saving lives and preventing billions of dollars in property damage. This type of collaborative approach to solving critical infrastructure issues will better integrate our built and natural environments, helping protect one of the state’s most valuable resources.

The Water@Michigan Collaborative's mission is to work with communities that have been disproportionately affected by historic inequities in order to develop just, equitable and sustainable approaches that address their water priorities.

A center of expertise dedicated to addressing critical and emerging water resource challenges by fostering collaborative, user-driven research that informs policy and management decisions affecting our waters.

Supporting water and climate policy solutions for just, sustainable, and resilient cities and communities.
