Childhood Nostalgia

I used the song “love.” by wave to earth because the melody felt and sounded super nostalgic to me. The song felt bittersweet. In the beginning, I added an audio of me and my family singing happy birthday. I also added different audios of me laughing and my parents talking too. I did a lot of clipping the audios. In class, I learned how to split an audio and delete clips in between. I had to convert the videos I had into an mp3 audio first and then upload it into soundtrap. I really liked going through my old videos to look for audios I could use. It was nice seeing old memories and for some reason it was a little sad. This song was personal to me because they were my own videos and it was my own parents' voices.

I used three songs for this piece. I used “kids” by current joys, “space song” by beach house, and “symphonia ix” by current joys. These songs also sound nostalgic to me. Rather than happy nostalgia, it's more sad. I had to cut down each audio a lot after getting each song from youtube and blend them together. At first, I originally wanted to merge all the songs together but it was too difficult to do so I just decided to put them back to back, like a story. I added a track from when I was little again and it plays through the whole song. My favorite part about creating this was listening to each song because I love current joys.

For my third song, I used my old week 6 homework and tweaked it to match with the song “hatachi no koi” by lamp. I repeated found sounds like waves crashing and bubbles the whole song. In class we learned how to use found sounds and that helped me make this song. I thought the song “hatachi no koi” felt like a beach day. When I was younger, I went to the beach a lot so the upbeat song reminded me of my childhood. I really enjoyed hearing this song go really well with my found sounds.
