Even though I wasn't confident in my music making abilities (still not fully but that's ok) I wanted to do my best to have fun in this workshop and with my final project. I think art is best enjoyed when there are emotions put behind it or is simply there to alleviate stress. So I went into these pieces with a light-hearted feeling and one of wonder. I wanted to create a fantasy land almost with nothing but music.
My process was kinda simple. I would pick a random instrument that I thought sounded nice and play around with it. Making silly little tunes until I got something concert and catchy. I than would think about where I'd hear this cord/tune in a rpg (role-playing game) video game (I was thinking heavily of Stardew Valley) and then I would name my pieces and build my songs from there.
So my project is music I think you would find in a cute, mystical and mysterious rpg. Let me know if I did a good job! (Especially those of you who play Stardew) :))

I made this song because when doesn't an adventure and/or fantasy rpg have a knight? Even if there isn't necessarily a knight, there is always that one heroic character (typically the player).
I used sampling pretty heavily in this one. I found a sound off YouTube of a horse neighing and galloping, tuning and pitching it so you can faintly hear it in the background. I also got a beat from the music and one-shot bank offered to us on the software (soundtrap), which I further built upon with other instruments.
My process was that I created one sound first (my third track) and thought that it sounded like something that would play when someone is wondering around in the open world or maybe late in the day. I then kept building my song from there, adding more upbeat and vibrant sounds. At the end I added the horse sounds, mainly for fun, but also thought it better conveyed what I wanted which was an open world fantasy.
What I enjoyed most about this piece was the horse add-in not gonna lie. I was kinda stumped as to what else I could add to my beat and then it hit me that knights typically have steads. I also just thought it was funny.
I just really like gnomes. I think they're funny and cute. Gnomes just make the little whimsical world go round.
But I used sampling once again, which is something we covered and practice extensively in class. I also recorded myself saying "gnome" and pitched it higher to go with the rest of the song.
My process was similar to the previous song "I'm just a knight". My process was that I created one sound first (my first track) and thought that it sounded like something that would play when someone is wondering around in an enchanted forest with fairies and frogs. I then kept building my song from there, adding more upbeat and vibrant sounds. At the end I added the frog noises, mainly for fun, but also thought it better conveyed what I wanted which was an open world fantasy.
What I enjoyed most about this project was making the gnome noises. I think it's good not to take yourself too serious especially during a creative process or else you could easily lose the joy of the creation process. I've done that many times and wanted to do something different with this experience so I could look back at it fondly.

I think mines are an integral part to any rpg (role playing game). From Minecraft to Stardew Valley to Terraria. So I decided I wanted a beat that represented just that.
The techniques I used are similar to the ones I used for my other two songs. I sampled two sounds from the internet, a fish splashing in water and water droplets from a faucet sink. I made one beat with an instrument I think that went well with the vibe and theme and then kept building the song from there. This song was probably the most difficult for me to make as I was rather indecisive with the synth part. But eventually I settled on the one I chose.
The part I think I enjoyed most about this song/beat was combining my first three tracks since I was having so much trouble doing so. I kept deleting and redoing them. Changing the instruments or the pitch. Changing the beat all together even. But when I stopping being indecisive and just started playing thing by ear (I would play the track I already had then start playing other instruments to see if they really went well together) I was finally able to come up with a song I liked.
