Biography & Personal Statement
Mary McHale (they/she) is a sophomore from Maryland studying Theater at UMD. They have an expansive interest in the arts, spanning visual, performing, and writing crafts. They focus primarily on the performing arts, as both an onstage performer (in dance and acting) and as a backstage worker. They draw on the people around them and their personal experience of the arts to fuel their creativity and exploration throughout the production process. After receiving their bachelor's degree in Theater, Mary plans to work within the DMV theater scene as both a performer and a technicial, continuing to discover art from new perspectives.
As a College Park Arts Scholar, Mary intends to explore different art forms and artistic expression through attending performances, classes, and guest artist lectures. She looks forward to experiencing new art styles in workshops and similar hands-on classes. While at Maryland, she has worked with the Maryland Shakespeare Players and UMD Ghostlight, among other clubs, joining a community of fellow students with an avid interest in performance. She is particularly excited about working on a fictional audio drama alongside many fellow UMD students, which will stretch her script-writing and acting skills in new ways.
