As I reflect on my ePortfolio, I appreciate it stylistically. I started with an aesthetic and stuck with it, leading to a visually captivating product. This consistency in my visual art makes it a lot easier for me to single out my growth with how I presented my ideas in written form. Looking through my TRYathalons, you can see that I improved so much in incorporating Bloom's Taxonomy into my written explanations of events. I perceive writing as one of my weak points, so seeing significant growth in that area is exciting.
Generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) was a big thing that I came to terms with this semester, considering its incorporation into artwork. I’m still on the fence, but what I’ve experienced this semester has challenged my perception of art. My second Arts TRYathalon this semester was an art installation that utilized AI in a small portion of the project. It made me wonder if AI should not be used under any circumstances when it comes to art, or is it something that can be used partially in art? Then one of my peers' capstone projects directly addressed this question through a DJ set, which further challenged my ideas on the subject.
My capstone project wouldn’t have worked as well without the coursework I did alongside it. Practicum helped me IMMENSELY when it came to my time management skills. I also pulled on my accountability with rehearsal attendance (supporting orchestra credits) when it came to keeping myself on track to finish my project. I think colloquium gave me the confidence to incorporate things I had never done before into my capstone project (Photography & Graphic Design)through all the different art forms we explored last semester.
I’d like to think I have a good eye for design and am very referential, which leaves me with an ability to develop project/artistic ideas easily. I also have experience across disciplines: music, 3D art, and dance, which makes me a very flexible artist. In Arts Scholars, I have used these skills to inform all of my artistic projects. But especially through something like my capstone, I learned how to and have come to love graphic design. This process has encouraged me to work more on my own personal projects as I've developed new skills.
Scholars, especially the Capstone, have given me invaluable knowledge when it comes to project management and holding myself accountable. I think this translates so well both academically and professionally for me, as I do plan on going into a design field. Personally, it has helped me stay more accountable in my social life and has given me new creative outlets to destress with. I am so much more realized as an artist and as a person. I used to be so scared to share my perspective with other people, and this program has reinforced that there is a place for my ideas. Scholars has shown me that even if I don’t have a career in art I can still experience and incorporate it into my everyday life.
