Example Actions

Talk with colleagues to identify ways to adopt sustainability practices and principles into the mission of your unit and the way your office approaches project/program planning

Identify and pursue opportunities for sustainable decisions to be made to improve the impact your office has on the campus, regionally, and globally.

Talk to your department and division head about sustainability and how it relates to the mission and work of your unit. Identify policies, practices, and infrastructure your office can adopt to become more sustainable.

Set long-term sustainability goals

    • How can you approach the work you do more sustainably?

    • How can the work you do help advance an environment that's safe and healthy for all?

    • How can you raise environmental awareness and encourage action in the students, faculty or staff you work with?

Five Year Plan

Think about the impact your department has on the campus, and the broader region and planet. Determine a few long-term sustainability goals. List smaller and easier short-term goals that will help your office achieve their long-term goals.

Develop a process for evaluating the environmental impacts of future decisions made

When it comes time to make decisions, ensure sustainability is a factor. Consider the long term benefits of making sustainable decisions when designing strategies, projects and plan.

Offset your Office's Emissions

Talk to the Office of Sustainability to identify emissions associated with your office.

If your office engages in outreach and education, promote sustainability to the audiences you reach.
