Throughout the past two years in Arts Scholars, I was challenged with how my creative process works. During the past two semesters, I have dissected the way I work, and my creative process has finally come to life.
Fall semester freshman year was the time where I brainstormed ideas for my capstone. This was where I took to looking online for things that were interesting and important to me. At this time I also took the time to look at other artists to see what type of art I wanted to create and how I wanted it to be reflected on. The brainstorming time of first semester made me realize that creative process is not just creating the finished piece but also taking all of your surroundings into account and creating a back story to the final artwork.
After choosing the topic of Women's safety at the University of Maryland, I had already know that I wanted to create an abstract map since I was inspired by Mark Bradford; an artist we learned about earlier that year. During this past semester, I have been working diligently on following my workplan as well as working it into my other classes. To deal with time management, in class we learned about time boxing. Time boxing is when you make a list of tasks that you have to do an divide chucks of time throughout the day to do the tasks. This was very helpful when I had busy days and did not know when I was going to get everything done. This also helped with making sure I did not go over time and if I did, I would stop what I was doing and move onto the next task.
