A Shift in Circumstance
A Shift in Circumstance, 2026
Colored pencil, Ink on canvas
This drawing informs the audience of a split view of someone’s life before and after homelessness. The left side shows the person with a house, bed, food, car, new clothes, job, and family support, indicating a stable life. The right side shows the person experiencing homelessness with a tent, little food and money, ragged clothing, a shopping cart full of belongings, job rejection because of not having an address, and a sign asking for help for sick children. The contrast shows how quickly someone’s life can change when experiencing homelessness. Losing basic needs like shelter, food, and income can severely change someone's life. The main theme is to highlight the shift in circumstances that someone may go through. Many life events can cause homelessness, and as a society, we cannot be quick to judge those who are facing the hardships of homelessness.
