QUISLING; or, the Cannibalistic Traitors

Abstract

In 1940, Norway was invaded and occupied by Nazi Germany for its strategic value and to further the propaganda of a greater German Reich field by the Aryan race. This latter point reflected the obsession with race eugenics that permeated much of the developed world at the time, one that elevated a white-supremacist view of the Nordic people over other undesirable groups. This rhetoric is not exclusive to Nazi times, however, and has been echoed by President-elect Donald Trump and his allies, who hold immigrants in contempt and continue to uphold a whitewashed history of the United States, one that goes against the American Dream and the spirit of the United States. And half of the electorate voted him back into power, choosing their pocketbooks over any semblance of the American spirit. They cannibalized what made them Americans. Going backward, the Nazi regime would later be led by Vidkun Quisling, who now is regarded as one of the foremost traitors in WW2 history. This short story collection, QUISLING; or, the Cannibalistic Traitors, aims to explore the contradictory nature of the electorate that voted Donald Trump into power, evoking Norse mythology and Norwegian history as anchors for each short story, an example of reactionary protest literature. Designed to inspire introspection and ignite a call to action, this collection will respond to a growing murkiness around the meaning of “American”, and how this coalition requires cleansing for their definition to be realized.
