Exhibition Statement
Through their artistic expression, creators can share their feelings and views with a wider audience. Many art forms and methods have developed over time, forcing artists to produce something original and thought-provoking. I examined the idea of anamorphic art, which has been employed by well-known painters like Van Gogh and Picasso. Also looking at how anamorphic art represents the various stages of life and how we view ourselves is my main concern. The result is a portrait of an anamorphic sculpture intended to inspire viewers to consider their own experiences and value their journeys.
Anamorphic art uses a technique to stretch or distort an image giving the impression that it is doing so. Since ancient times, artists have employed it to produce illusions and alter the viewer's perspective of reality. Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso are two of the most well-known artists to have employed this method in their works such as the starry night. Van Gogh employed anamorphic art to convey depth and movement this method was utilized by Picasso to distort images in his well-known cubist paintings to convey a sense of dislocation and fragmentation. This idea of fragmentation and dislocation inspired me to break down a portrait and have each fragment represent something.
I carefully examined the works of Van Gogh and Picasso examining their use of anamorphic art and how it mirrors their own journeys. Specifically, “Anamorphic Art” by Jurgic Baltrusaitis and “Picasso and Portraiture: Representation and Transformation.” by Pablo Picasso. Also, I performed primary research by interviewing individuals from various walks of life and asking them how their various life stages have affected how they regard themselves. My anamorphic art portrait, which depicts the various periods of life and the stories that go along with them, was made using these insights.
This exhibition is meant for people who are interested in art and are looking for something unique and thought-provoking. By showcasing anamorphic art pieces that reflect the different stages of life, I hope to encourage the audience to reflect on their own stories and appreciate the journey that led them to where they are now. I believe that this portrait has the potential to impact people's lives by inspiring them to see their own experiences in a new light.
In conclusion, this exhibition celebrates anamorphic art and its ability to challenge our perception of reality. By exploring the works of Van Gogh and Picasso, I have created an exhibition that reflects the different stages of life and encourages the audience to reflect on their own journeys.
