What happens when you put headphones on and turn on your playlist, how do you feel, what do you visualize? What if you could show these emotions in a different way/method? What would it look like? Everyone’s brain receives information in different ways, allowing freedom for interpretation of art. This is what makes art so unique. Through this project, the participants will learn to see the music they chose in the art form of fashion. In class, participants will be taught to create a fashion design on a mannequin based on the feelings they receive from a song of their choosing. This class is meant to evoke creativity and develop their art skills by trying a new art form. At ArtsFest, the products from the course will be presented with an artist statement from each person and a description of how the class was conducted.
Influence
This class was influenced by an article the MET put out highlighting the recreated outfits fans of the MET gala posted online (Kozanecka, 2020). The idea of constructing something again but in your own style inspired this mini-workshop. The project was also inspired by a workshop done last year about creating music for movie scenes called “Music in Film” instructed by Jenna Dietrich (Dietrich, 2022). Together these two sources prompted the connection my project makes between music and art.
Subject
The lecture portion of the class will be using the source Painting Music to teach the students about the history of music and fine arts (Kennedy, 2007). They will learn examples of this process and how it created artistic movements like synesthesia.
Interviewing was used as the main research method to get feedback on how to conduct my class from my art scholars' peers and professors. During the interview, friends were asked about what kind of fabric they would want to use and what other materials they wanted to decorate their designs. The feedback received was to get plain and patterned fabric.
The target audience is college students who want to learn a new art form in a super fun way. The reason for this is that when learning something new you want people to be willing to receive the information given to them, and if they are uninterested then it will not be successful. This class is not only a way to teach a new art form but also a way to spark creativity in participants since that is the kind of feeling you get when learning something new.

I was assisted by the Arts Scholars Faculty, my friend, my mom, and my Art Scholars Peers in making this possible. They were a significant help in giving me feedback and new ideas.
