The Black and White

Abstract

My capstone will be visually breaking down why the image/music created by Hip-Hop/Rap artists has an influence on people. I want to bring attention to the impact the music of those artists has on communities and individuals worldwide.

 I will compare and contrast two artists: Kendrick Lamar, and Tupac Shakur (2pac). The reason I compare them is because they already have similarities in the influence they have created in West Coast music.

The idea I'm tackling is the notion of viewing things ‘Black and White.’ This is another reason why my capstone is named ‘The Black and White,’ I want to help people realize how appearances make a difference in how an artist is viewed. For example,  Kendrick Lamar and Tupac have both impacted music similarly, but Tupacs appearance as a rapper made the public view him in a more negative light.

The influence an artist and their music have on people is something everyone should realize as they listen to music. Artists as big as Tupac (was) and the current Kendrick Lamar are influencing people in both negative and positive ways. This project just wants to make people aware of that.
