If your tax preparation needs are "out of scope" for UMBC VITA or an appointment is not available to fit your needs, consider the below options to receive assistance on your tax return preparation.
Facilitated Self Assistance
CASH Campaign of Maryland offers a service called FSA including free software and optional support so you can confidently prepare your tax return yourself. Household income must $89,000 or less.
TaxAide
AARP has a volunteer tax preparation program called TaxAide. They are able to prepare tax returns that include topics which are out of scope for VITA sites. Contact TaxAide for an appointment.
NRVTAP
The Non Resident Volunteer Tax Assistance Program provides facilitated self assistance preparation. Their main purpose is assisting international students and scholars but they will help with US Resident tax returns as well. However, you must be using a .edu, .org or .gov email address (or similar) to be eligible for their help.
GetYourRefund
A team of virtual VITA tax preparers is available to prepare your tax return but you'll need a smart phone and some tech savvy. All the same eligibility rules apply as in-person VITA. GetYourRefund might be just what you need if you can't get to the UMBC campus for tax prep.
CashApp Taxes (any income)
CashApp Taxes is a free software option but you'll be required to have a CashApp account.
211 Maryland
211 Maryland is a referral agent for many social service needs and they do all the appointment scheduling for Baltimore area VITA programs. In addition, they will assist callers in locating a low cost and reputable tax preparer.
Maryland Registered Tax Preparers
The State of Maryland website lists registered tax preparers.
