What Is VITA?
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS-sponsored program that provides free, tax return preparation to eligible individuals and families each Spring semester. Volunteers complete a rigorous training program and pass an IRS certification exam every year. Individuals and families who wish to come to the UMBC campus and have their income taxes prepared must meet IRS eligibility criteria.
Criteria and What To Bring:
You must have and bring a Social Security card for each person listed on the tax return.
Your household income must be less than an amount set each year (typically around $65,000).
You can't be an international student or scholar (F, J, M, or Q Visa or Teachers or Trainees on a J Visa)
Your tax return must not require forms related to small business losses, virtual currency sale, certain cancellation of debt types, and several others.
