Learning Scenario with Project Based Learning
In this project, teachers create a comprehensive digital literacy curriculum to teach fundamental technology skills and digital citizenship. In a learning management system (LMS) Canvas, teachers will work in teams and are organized according to their subject area. Given current standards, guidelines and case studies on digital citizenship, they will research digital citizenship topics tailored to their subject area and progress each milestone by designing lesson plans with activities for an elementary and secondary grade level. Individually, teachers will complete knowledge checks appropriate objectives and create lessons and activities using various educational technology tools. For the final project, teachers will take a former lesson they previously taught and recreate it to integrate digital literacy.
Formative Assessment
Digital project walls where key information about a project is displayed helps the teachers visualize project milestones, such as deadlines and samples of teachers’ work (Arundel, 2021). Digital tools such as Canva online whiteboard encourages a collaborative session where teachers can interact in real time and share their thoughts on each's team progress.
Breakout rooms for project milestones. Instruction can be divided into smaller lessons that include review of information presented earlier (Arundel, 2021). Teachers would discuss and create lesson plans and activities. This step is about giving project teams as much freedom as is feasible. Give your project teams as much opportunity to define the process, content and final product as possible (Lawless, n.d).
Knowledge checks for individual learning. Teachers take the opportunity to reflect on what has come up during the course of the project, including obstacles and strategies for overcoming them (Lawless, n.d).
Authentic Assessment
By the end of the project, teachers will be asked to use a former lesson and recreate the lesson and share to Canvas. Practicing with live examples and real-life situations helps to transfer acquired knowledge into long-term memory (Sulanto, 2021).
Teachers will be tasked to include
research topics on digital citizenship related to the lesson
incorporate real-life examples
use a educational technology tool
write a reflection sharing how changes they made to their original lesson integrates digital literacy
Teachers will be assigned to grade 2 teachers accordingly using the rubric given. Capture learning needs and areas to address through continuous user input while providing a constant stream of constructive feedback to the learners (Sulanto, 2021).
Connectivism
The learning theory best represented in the learning scenario is connectivism. Instructors play the role of facilitators and not teachers. Knowledge is constructed from a person's previous knowledge, experiences, beliefs and insights that serves as a foundation. Teachers focus on recognizing and choosing relevant knowledge needed to acquire skills to find, evaluate and create lesson plans effectively in the digital era.
