(Frequently Asked Questions)

Are you an aspiring data scientist interested in leveling up your training in problem-solving skills? Are you interested in being part of the community of learners passionate about getting ready for real-world challenges?  We are developing Caselet, an AI-driven learning tool to help learners develop higher-order thinking skills in data science/AI/machine learning. We invite you to join our research study to help us improve the Caselet practice tools.

What is Data Science Problem Solving?

Data Science Problem Solving (DSPS) is the competency of solving real-world problems using data and modeling techniques. It involves a series of component skills such as defining the problem, understanding and preparing data, performing exploratory analysis, selecting and building models, and evaluating their performance.

What are Caselets?

Caselets are “bite-sized” self-paced auto-graded case studies that invite learners to practice DSPS with authentic problems. Each Caselet highlights several critical decision points in problem-solving through  5-7 multiple-choice questions, each targeting critical DSPS competency, with a detailed explanation. Caselets team won the DARPA AI Tool Competition for Adult Learning and is now expanding the research with funding from the National Science Foundation.

Who is eligible?

I am interested. What are the next steps?

Completion of Caselets and Compensation

Once officially enrolled, you will receive links to an orientation video introducing you to the tool. You will then receive links to Caselets distributed on a schedule, with one caselet released every 24 hours. You are expected to complete five caselets, each requiring 20–30 minutes. Participants who complete the full sets of Caselets specified above can enter a lottery. The lottery offers a chance to win a $50 reward (Retriever Dollar or Amazon Gift Card) for every 10 participants.  In addition, students who completed the Caselet will receive a signed certificate from the Caselet Team, and eligible to participate in Caselet related community events focusing on Case-based learning and data science career development.
