Grad Slam!

Welcome to the #MAgisday2021 Grad Slam, where graduate students from across the Commonwealth show off their awesome GIS-related research in 5 minutes and 5 slides!

Schedule

Welcome and introductions

2:40 pm

Stefanie Farrington, UMass Amherst

"Characterizing Yellow Lampmussel habitat in the Connecticut River watershed"

This project will describe habitat where Yellow Lampmussel (YLM) occur and identify additional suitable habitat within the Connecticut River. We will use side-scan sonar and GIS tools to characterize and map habitat types using ArcGIS. Habitat types will be cross-referenced with species distribution to create habitat maps for YLM. The results of this study may be useful for identifying target areas for novel surveys of YLM and candidate areas for release of propagated YLM.

2:45 pm

Vicente Pereira Roa, UMass Amherst

"New England Renewables Plants (2012-2019)"

This map was built with data form the U.S Energy information administration (EIA), with the objective of understand the distribution of renewables energy plants in New England and their Nameplate capacity and Net generation.

2:50 pm

John Slaff, UMass Amherst

"Ecohydrological Effects of Climate Change Induced Forest Shifts"

Forest distribution, composition, and structure are changing in response to new temperature, precipitation, and pest pressure regimes under climate change. This study investigates how these shifts may affect hydrological systems in New England.
