We’ve Moved! New Goodell Locations
Our various Disability Services offices have all moved to the southwest corner of 4th floor of the newly renovated Goodell Hall. There are entrances on all sides of the building, three of which are fully accessible.
The Goodell 435 office suite now hosts the Access Coordinators, the Learning Specialists, the UMass Inclusive Learning program, and our administrative staff. The main entrance to the 435 suite is located directly next to the single elevator in the building, and just a short distance down the hall from the 4th floor entrance from the small parking lot of accessible parking space Visitors are invited to check in at the reception desk upon arrival.
Disability Service’s Exam Proctoring Center (EPC) is next door to the main office in Goodell 420. This suite features its own lobby, three large exam rooms and four small exam rooms, plus lockers and additional storage for students coats and backpacks. Each testing station features an adjustable sit-stand desk and privacy panels on either side, along with electronic hookups for computer-based testing.
We are very excited about this expanded space, which will be quieter and more comfortable for our students. Please remember to schedule all exams through Clockwork at least five (5) business days in advance; you can do this as soon as you have the syllabus!
The deadline to schedule your final exams with the EPC is Thursday, April 17, 2025. Even with the new space, not all final exams will be scheduled in the new EPC space; exams will also be scheduled in classrooms in Bartlett and Herter.
Introducing the Disability Community Space
We are excited to introduce the brand-new Disability Community Space, in 331 Goodell. This is a space for everyone in the UMass community --- students, staff, and faculty --- that identifies as disabled to gather and use. Disability Services programs, such as the Learning Specialists and UMass Inclusive Learning, will host activities in the space at times, but other groups are encouraged to reserve and use the space as well. For questions about the space, contact dcs@umass.edu.
Career Fair for Individuals with Disabilities
The virtual Career Fair connects qualified job candidates with disabilities to inclusive employers. Attendees will be able to network with leading disability-inclusive employers from Work Without Limits Business Network and more!
A resume in .pdf format is required to register. There is also a live candidate training via Zoom on February 12, 2025, 11:00 am EST.
Disability Services Scholarship Application
Disability Services offers several academic scholarships each year, with awards ranging from $300 to $2,000. In Academic Works, there is a packet of three Disability Services scholarships (with one application) open to anyone identifying as having a disability, as well as the Richard W. Venne Endowed Scholarship for students registered with Disability Services.
The application deadline is March 7.
Scholarship for Neurological Testing
The Parking Services Scholarship for Accessibility is dedicated to help students who need updated psychoeducational testing, students who self-identify as being neurodivergent but are seeking formal diagnostic testing, or students who suspect they may have an undiagnosed disability. We know testing can be expensive, so we want to make it as accessible as possible. Financials should not be in the way of your diagnosis!
There is no application deadline.
EDUC 398GS: Access to Success
This activity and discussion-based course is designed for neurodiverse students to learn college skills while building a sense of community with other students.
This course is pass/fail and meets on Wednesdays from 2:30pm – 3:45pm in Furcolo (College of Education) North 125.
UNIV 100: Take PART: Positivity and Relaxation Training
Developed at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, the PART program teaches participants a variety of mind body practices and self-care interventions.
This course is pass/fail and runs for 9 weeks starting the week of February 18 . There are a variety of sessions to choose from to fit into your schedule, including sections just for graduate students.
EDUC 190T: Time Literacy Project
This one-credit, online/asynchronous course is designed to introduce students to healthy systems for making academic progress over time. We consider various ways to represent time and how to develop productive routines. Unlike time management, which focuses on productivity alone, time literacy reflects academic progress that factors in one’s own needs and commitments, including (but not limited to) neurodiversity.
Housing For 2025-2026
We strongly encourage students to plan ahead for housing for the next academic year. It might be far from your mind this winter, but Fall 2025 housing selection appointments must be requested between February 18 – March 14. Appointments will be posted on March 24, and selection will begin on March 26. If you have already been approved for permanent housing accommodations, those will carry over automatically.
Any new housing accommodation requests, with supporting documentation, should be made to Disability Services by February 21. After this date, we may not have time to review the request in time for newly approved accommodations to be reflected in your housing selection appointment.
Five College Accommodations
Did you know that if you have classroom or testing accommodations at UMass and are taking a course at one of the 5 Colleges, your accommodations can easily transfer to the other school? Just fill out the Five College Accommodation Request Form (electronically) with your UMass-approved accommodations, and email it your assigned Access Coordinator or disability@umass.edu for our signature.
We encourage students to set up their accommodations at the other school as soon as possible.
